Strictly Come Dancing’s Shirley Ballas to have breast implants removed over cancer fears

Shirley Ballas has decided to have her breast implants removed after several cancer diagnoses in her family.

The Strictly Come Dancing judge, whose mother and aunt both have cancer, has said her upcoming surgery will not get in the way of her busy work schedule.

The star received a health warning following a mammogram and subsequently made the decision to have her implants removed.

Speaking to The Sun, Ballas said she was told “there’s no guarantee that we can ever really see behind the back of the implants,” which made her realise it could be difficult for doctors to detect any cancers.

The dancer made the decision to act immediately. She said: “I’m scheduled for the operation on Tuesday, October 29th.

“My doctor says I have recuperation of a week, but I want to do Strictly on the Saturday night.”

Joking that “it’s not like I have to dance and do the cha cha cha or the samba,” Ballas revealed that she had the support of TV bosses in her decision to undergo surgery in the middle of the current Strictly series, saying: “I spoke to the BBC and they have been very, very supportive.

“They said you have to do what you feel most comfortable for your health.”

Although there isn’t a lot of research available on the long term health impacts of breast implants, Ballas believes that her implants have been causing her chronic fatigue.

“There are rumours that the scar tissues cause chronic fatigue which I have suffered with even over the last year,” she said. “Usually I don’t get tired and I’m like an Energizer bunny.

“But if they take out the scar tissue it would involve bigger surgery and perhaps a reconstruction. But I don’t want any implants in. I don’t want any foreign bodies in my body.”

Ballas is not the only Strictly star to make a health decision concerning implants.

Earlier this year, current contestant Michelle Visage decided to remove hers after more than two decades, amid fears for her health.
