Foreshadowing Karim’s impending full marks, rather than giving comments on the dance, Craig stood up and gave the children’s TV presenter a standing ovation.

When the couple headed backstage they were awarded 10s from all four judges, marking the first time a couple have received a perfect score this series.

At the beginning of the show, Anton du Beke and Kevin Clifton proved there are many strings to their bow as they opened the show with a tuneful track while the other professionals joined them in a group dance.

Viewers were treated further when Craig also took to the floor dressed in drag, wearing a dazzling blush gown and a brunette wig.

Taking to the floor first, Chris Ramsay and Karen Clifton treated audiences to a Foxtrot to Oliver’s Consider Yourself, and were determined to earn more than a five from judge Craig for their ballroom routine.

Craig revealed that although it needed work he was altogether pleased with most of the technical elements of the dance.

THIS WEEK’S LEADERBOARD

1. Karim Zeroual and Amy Dowden  40

2. Kelvin Fletcher and Oti Mabuse  39

3. Emma Barton and Anton du Beke 39

4. Chris Ramsay and Karen Clifton 28

5.  Alex Scott and Neil Jones 27

The couple were awarded 6 from Craig, 7 from Motsi, 8 from Shirley and Bruno have them a 7, marking their highest ballroom score yet.

Following a disastrous accident that saw them get stuck together mid routine last Saturday, Alex Scott and her partner Neil Jones made a fighting return with a Samba to Joyful Joyful from the musical Sister Act.

Giving them an extra boost the duo were joined by a gospel choir during rehearsals to help them practice the routine.

Clearly happy with the results of the dance Neil picked his partner up and swung her around telling her that she ‘smashed it’ at the end.

But Bruno admitted that although he loved the performance it felt too commercial for him, and he felt left in a ‘weird position’ by the two dancers.
