Steph McGovern: Pregnant BBC Breakfast host not happy with ITV’s The Chase after ‘error’

Steph McGovern does not seem happy with The Chase after a fan pointed out a question to her on Twitter recently. The pregnant BBC Breakfast favourite was seemingly left upset by what they claimed was an error on the hugely popular quiz show. The 37-year-old, who has appeared in the programme’s rival Pointless, seemed disappointed on seeing what chaser Mark Labbett had faced. In a screen grab, one user revealed the question: “Which of these inhabitants lives furthest north?”

The options given were Tynesider, Merseyside or Teesider.

The upload was captioned: “Expected better from you @ITVChase – it’s Teessider. Double ss. A person who lives on the side of the Tees!”

After being tagged in the message, Steph reacted and replied with two crying emojis in view of her 367,000 followers.

“Hurts doesn’t it,” the same person said in response, while another person agreed: “I share your pain… Tee tee teessider!!!!”

Others went on: “Drives me mental – two ss’s in Teesside,” while another shared in her despair with the same images alongside: “GAAAHHHHHH.”(sic)

Steph is originally from Middlesbrough before attending University College London, where she studied science communication and policy.

Teessider refers to those living around Middlesbrough on the River Tees, in the north east of England.

It includes Billingham, Redcar, Stockton-on-Tees and Thornaby.

Above the area geographically are Tynesiders, which refers to this living on the banks of the River Tyne in the likes of Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead and South Shields.

Meanwhile, further south still is Merseyside, with boroughs: Knowsley, St Helens, Sefton, Wirral, and the city of Liverpool.

It comes as Steph McGovern, who is expecting her first child in the coming months, told co-host Charlie Stayt her “hormones” were why she was jokingly teasing him after he took a swipe at her during one particular segment.

She was today on hand to report the latest goings on in the business world on BBC Breakfast.

Some of the segments entwined with hosts Charlie, 57, and Louise Minchin, 50, looking through the headlines making the papers today.

As the trio of BBC presenters examined what was making the news today, Louise stumbled across one article which related to a caveman diet.

Joking with the presenters, Steph took the opportunity to take a swipe at Charlie, leading her to explain her pregnancy “hormones” were why she had done so.

BBC Breakfast continues tomorrow at 6am on BBC One.
