Stars in Their Eyes to return with celebrity judging panel

Stars in Their Eyes is set to return to the small screen – nearly five years since the revival, hosted by Harry Hill, was axed.

In a desperate bid to fill the void left by The X Factor, the singing competition will once again take the primetime Saturday night slot after the new series was signed off by ITV.

However, the show will move away from the old format, and will now involve members of the public impersonating their singing heros on stage in front of a panel of celebrities.

An insider revealed to The Sun ITV thinks bringing back Stars in Their Eyes is the ‘”perfect” solution while Simon Cowell rests The X Factor for a year.

Stars in Their Eyes is set to return to ITV later this year

A TV source said: “This show is a huge deal for ITV — it’s their offering to take on the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing in the ratings this autumn.

“There was a huge gap to fill after they found out The X Factor wouldn’t be back and this series seems like the perfect solution.

“It’s a new take on Stars In Their Eyes. Members of the public will get dolled up and sing their idols’ songs on stage, just like the old format.

The show will now feature a celebrity judging panel

“But this time they’ll be judged by a celebrity panel.

“The celebrity judges are still being decided on but it’ll be good names.”

Harry Hill hosted the Stars in Their Eyes revival, but was shortly axed due to poor ratings

The show premiered in 1990, and was originally presented by Leslie Crowther. Matthew Kelly took over from Leslie in 1993 after he was involved in a car crash.

Following a nine-year hiatus, Harry Hill hosted the revival in 2015, however the series didn’t take off and was axed due to poor viewing figures.
