WITH spring around the corner now is a good time to clean up your finances as well as your home.

- SWITCH ON: Moving bank accounts takes less time than you think and can make you cash. First Direct gifts you £100 for switching, while NatWest has just announced that it will give you £175 if you switch to its main account, matching an existing offer from HSBC. If you recommend a friend to Nationwide and they switch their current account to the building society, you both get £100 each.
- CASH IN: Apps such as Chip, Plum and Cleo connect to your bank account and auto-save without you noticing. Even if it’s only a couple of quid each month, it’ll help build up a rainy-day fund and takes minutes to set up. Cashback sites are always a good way to save. You can currently get £31.50 back when purchasing your car insurance with Money Supermarket via TopCashback.co.uk.
- VOUCH FOR IT: I always scout around for deals on Voucherscodes.co.uk before heading to the supermarket or eating out. For example, you can get a code for £5 off selected cleaning product orders more than £15 at Tesco. Sign up to newsletters while you are in store and check your email as you will often find an intro code or offer has been sent.
- SAVVY TRAVEL: Save on fuel costs by walking or taking the bus where you can. With rail fares rising by 2.7 per cent last month, I recommend booking longer trips using the Megabus. When I last checked, a trip from London to Norwich on a Saturday in March was £5.53. The same journey cost £57.30 by train.
- SIDE HUSTLE: There are plenty of easy ways to make a bit of extra cash. I’ve tried mystery shopping and taking online surveys, which can pay between 50p and £5 a time. Check out yougov.co.uk, surveyspotter.com and pineconeresearch.co.uk.
