Sportradar extends betting integrity partnership with Live Media


Leading sports data company Sportradar has told Esports Insider that its partnership with Live Media has been extended to monitor the integrity of Movistar Liga Pro Gaming season six, a Dota 2 tournament in Latin America.

With the extension, Sportradar will continue to use its Fraud Detection System (FDS) in order to monitor betting activity related to the Liga Pro Gaming season. Season six of the Dota 2 competition has been underway since late October and the event is set to conclude in December with the Movistar Liga Pro Gaming Final Series.

Sportradar will continue reporting any potential integrity risks to Live Media to help detect corrupt behaviour and gambling fraud, including match-fixing and the misuse of inside information.

Luis Carrillo Pinto, CEO at Live Media Esports Entertainment—the tournament organiser of Movistar Liga Pro Gaming—told Esports Insider: “The ecosystem of teams, leagues and players [in Latin America] has grown due to the appearance of new competitions, generating attraction for publishers that are now focused on our region by investing in official leagues such as League of Legends, Dota 2, CS:GO and Free Fire. This has led to international tournament organisers also deciding to enter the region, which is positive for the scene in general.

“Sportradar’s bet monitoring to protect the integrity of our matches is fundamental to give transparency to our competition,” Pinto added. “Latin America is professionalising the esports industry on a daily basis and we want our partners to trust that all Movistar Liga Pro Gaming matches are played with the highest quality and integrity standards possible, utilising specialised technology.”

Sportradar collects, processes and distributes sports data. The company has existing partnerships with brands such as the National Football League (NFL) and the National Basketball Association (NBA). Last year the company announced an ‘integrity services’ agreement with Riot Games, as well as a similar partnership with Activision Blizzard to oversee the integrity of the Overwatch League and Call of Duty League—two franchised, geo-affiliated esports leagues. 

“The constant evolution of esports in Latin America and its exciting future requires increased efforts focused on protecting the integrity of the competitions,” commented Juan Matias Méndez, Business Development Manager, Sportradar. “We are honoured to continue supporting Live Media to monitor the integrity of the Movistar Liga Pro Gaming tournament. This partnership demonstrates that the esports industry is taking these matters seriously in this region, and it should be seen as a blueprint for others to follow.”

On the future of Latin American esports, Pinto said: “I think there is going to be a lot of growth in mobile esports and more interest from sponsors. Media agencies, marketing managers and the media have already realised that this is a mainstream platform and that it is no longer a niche. It can generate a greater audience than a football game. Esports has reached that level in LatAm.”

Esports Insider says: Betting in esports is growing incredibly quickly; many companies are raising millions by widening a much-needed revenue stream in the industry. With that comes the need for adjudicators—companies that monitor the fairness and integrity of gambling. In this sense, Sportradar and other similar companies have a crucial role to play.
