1. Kaepernick ‘still ready’ for NFL return
Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has posted a video on Twitter showing he is “still ready” to make a return to the NFL.
The 31-year-old has been without a contract for 889 days after leaving the 49ers in March 2017. Alongside the video of him working out in the gym, he said: “5am. 5 days a week. For 3 years. Still Ready.”
A campaigner against racial injustice, Kaepernick started the US national anthem kneeling protest in 2016.
2. Happy transfer deadline day!
Premier League fans across the world are busy refreshing their news feeds as clubs wheel and deal on transfer deadline day. Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku is set to join Inter Milan but Tottenham have missed out on signing Paulo Dybala from Juventus. The deadline for incoming players is 5pm today.
3. Real in talks for Neymar
While the Premier League clubs are busy getting their transfer deals done there’s big news also coming out of France and Spain regarding Neymar’s future. It’s reported that Real Madrid are holding talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a deal for the Brazilian.

4. City to win third successive title?
According to the UK’s football pundits and bookies Manchester City are favourites to win the title in 2019-20. Pep Guardiola’s team will be aiming for a third successive championship.

5. Nowell a World Cup doubt
BBC Sport reports that England winger Jack Nowell is an injury doubt for the Rugby World Cup. The Exeter player has flown home from England’s training camp in Italy and no time frame has been put on his return. England head coach Eddie Jones names his 31-man World Cup squad on Monday.
6. Arthur unlikely for England role
The Daily Telegraph says that Mickey Arthur is unlikely to be considered for the England cricket head coach role when Trevor Bayliss steps down after the Ashes. Arthur’s contract with Pakistan has not been renewed.
7. Evans and Edmund out in Rogers Cup
Rafael Nadal is through to the third round of the Rogers Cup after beating British No.2 Dan Evans 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 in Montreal, Canada. British No.1 Kyle Edmund is also out after losing 6-3, 6-0 to Russia’s Daniil Medvedev.
8. Lowry: Open win still sinking in
Shane Lowry admits that his win at The Open last month has not yet sunk in. The Irish golfer told ESPN: “It’s almost like you have to pinch yourself. I’m sure it’s something over the coming weeks or months, or however long it takes, it will sink in.”
9. Horner: F1 would be boring without Red Bull
Christian Horner says Formula 1 would be a “boring show” if it wasn’t for Red Bull and Max Verstappen. Mercedes have dominated the season but Verstappen’s victories in Austria and Germany have seen the Bulls challenge the Silver Arrows at the front of the grid. Red Bull boss Horner said: “Thank God for Red Bull and Max Verstappen because otherwise it would be a pretty boring show.”

10. Luiz to leave Chelsea for Arsenal
The Sun calls it an “exit bombshell” while The Times goes for a more restrained “dramatic move”. But whatever one’s take on the news that Chelsea defender David Luiz is on the brink of signing for Arsenal it’s a late development few expected. BBC reports that Chelsea and Arsenal have agreed a fee of £8m for the Brazilian.
