How do toilets work on the International Space Station?

Because of the space station’s microgravity environment, going to the toilet is a tricky affair.

But the space toilets used on the ISS are adapted to keep all activities as comfortable and hygienic as possible.

The space toilet in the Tranquillity module is officially known as the Waste and Hygiene Compartment.

Just one of these space toilets comes with the hefty price tag of £14,261.78 ($19,000).

ESA said: “This Russian-built toilet is housed in a cubicle and separately channels liquid and solid waste.
