He wrote: “Ohh f*** off you stupid bitch, c**** like you will perish when civil war comes and its coming. 17.4 million people are gunning for blood if we don’t leave.”

The outburst on Wednesday was reported and the Army confirmed Thames Valley Police are now investigating.

News of the outburst comes amid female MPs fearing for their safety as both sides ratchet up the rhetoric over Brexit.

Afghan veteran Goshawk, 32, who serves in a bomb disposal unit lashed out on a day of toxic rows on the social media site after the Supreme Court ruled a move to suspend Parliament was unlawful.

Amid ugly spats in the Commons Rayner hit out at Attorney General Geoffrey Cox – who was defending the Government’s actions to MPs.

She wrote: “Attorney General Geoffrey Cox all bluff and bluster in the commons, absolutely no shame at all that his government has acted unlawfully, instead he is waving his arms around exuding faux outrage, looking for encouragement from the Tory benches, it’s a really poor vaudeville act!”

Goshawk – who described himself on twitter as a “serving British Army soldier” struck back and the tweet was swiftly reported by users of the site – including Rayner.

Defence Secretary Ben Wallace reacted with anger to the soldier’s tweet.

He took to Twitter himself, saying: “This is an unacceptable tweet from a member of the British Army to Angela Rayner.

“This foul language goes against the values of the Armed Forces and is now being investigated by the Army and civilian police.”

The soldier’s unit replied to the MP for Ashton-under-Lyne confirming Top Brass would investigate.

The official feed for 11 EOD and Search Regiment wrote: “Thank you for bring this to our attention. We are immediately investigating now, and if proven will deal with the individual appropriately. These views are entirely at odds with the core values and standards of the Regiment and Army, and will not be tolerated.”

It comes amid a national row about the vitriolic language from politicians and MPs fears over safety.

Female MPs –citing the tragic murder of Jo Cox – have demanded the language gets toned down for fears it could lead to further violence.

PM Boris Johnson was accused of using “dangerous language” after dismissing safety fears as “humbug.”

He defended his language saying: “I totally deplore any threats to anybody, particularly female MPs, and a lot of work is being done to stop that and give people the security that they need.”

An Army spokesperson said: “We are aware of a post made on Twitter in reply to an MP. This incident has been referred to the civilian authorities to investigate.

“The Army is a politically neutral organisation and holds its people to the highest standards.”
