Stars of The Good Liar, Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren, hit the red carpet tonight for the world premiere of their new thriller film.

Dame Helen, 74, literally shone in a black dress with thin straps and a transparent overlay covered in sparkly polka dots.

While Sir Ian, 80, opted for an electric blue suit and light blue tie, paired with a brown scarf and matching fedora.

Directed by Bill Condon and based on the widely acclaimed novel by Nicholas Searle, The Good Liar sees Ian play professional conman, Roy Courtnay, who sets his sights on recently-widowed Betty McLeish (Helen).

‘Roy means to take it all,’ the film’s official synopsis explained.

‘From their very first meeting, Roy begins plying Betty with his tried and true manipulations, and Betty, who seems quite taken with him, is soon going along for the ride.’

‘But this time, what should have been a simple swindle escalates into a cat-and-mouse game with the ultimate stakes – revealing more insidious deceptions that will take them both through a minefield of danger, intrigue and betrayal,’ it explained.

The cast also includes English actors Russell Tovey and Jim Carter.

During promotion for The Good Liar in April, Helen Mirren made international headlines when she proudly proclaimed ‘F*** Netflix’ at Cinema Con, Los Angeles.

The Queen actress said: ‘I love Netflix, but f*** Netflix’, gaining huge cheers from the audience at the Warner Bros presentation.

‘There is nothing like sitting in the cinema,’ she added.

We’re gonna have to agree with you on that last point, Helen.

The Good Liar is due for worldwide release on 15 November.
