Sir Alex Ferguson would have destroyed Bruno Fernandes after Leicester draw, claims Owen Hargreaves

Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves says Sir Alex Ferguson would have tore Bruno Fernandes apart for the role he played in the club’s 2-2 draw with Leicester City on Boxing Day.

The Portuguese midfielder provided an assist for Marcus Rashford’s opener and he thought he found a winner late on when he converted a slipped through ball from Edinson Cavani.

However, United were pegged back by a late Jamie Vardy goal and the Red Devils lead for just nine minutes in the whole match as Harvey Barnes had scored in the first half to level things up.

Despite his work in attack, Fernandes’ decision-making cost United at a crucial time of the game and Hargreaves believes former boss Ferguson would have taken a dim view of his error.

‘Fernandes, sometimes as good as you are, don’t play with risk in your own half,’ Hargreaves told Premier League Productions.

‘He’s fortunate Ole is a nice manager because I can only imagine what Sir Alex would have said to one of us if we tried to nutmeg someone in our own half.’

United have an added 36 hours to prepare for the visit of Wolves to Old Trafford.

The Midlands club host Tottenham at Molineux on Sunday night and they can climb into the top half with a win against Jose Mourinho’s side.

United hope to have Aaron Wan-Bissaka back from injury after the defender missed the draw at the King Power Stadium.
