Simon Rimmer: Sunday Brunch host scolded by co-host Tim Lovejoy for ‘smuggling’

Simon Rimmer, 56, and Tim Lovejoy, 51, were joined on the Channel 4 show by comedian Rob Beckett, photographer Chris Packham and actress Tracey-Ann Oberman. As the presenting duo introduced their guests, Simon revealed he had some special food for them to try following his trip to San Sebastián in Spain. Tim said to the TV chef: “Simon you spent the week in the food capital of the world, San Sebastián.” Simon replied: “San Sebastián tourism board, I’m more than happy to go back.”

His co-presenter than asked if many beverages were drunk because it could possibly explain the reason he had brought back so many tomatoes.

“This might explain where you found your all time favourite meal which you posted on social media. Tomatoes. Literally just tomatoes,” Tim explained.

Simon replied: “Tomatoes, olive oil and salt. Good San Sebastián tomatoes.”

The Channel 4 host then asked: “Did you actually bring these back? Are you allowed to bring produce back?”

Simon replied: “Probably not. I smuggled them in.”

He then turned to their guest and wildlife expert, Chris who explained it’s fine to bring food back to the UK within Europe.

Chris said: “Within Europe you’re ok but not parts of Australia or the US.”

Meanwhile, the TV regular recently spoke out about why Sunday Brunch has been a hit with viewers over the years.

The chef said it is “fun” to see guests drinking alcohol, admitting there is “no limit” when it comes to booze on the show, according to the Daily Star.

Simon told the publication: “It’s fun when they’ve had a few drinks. There isn’t a limit to how much they can have.

“I quite like it when they have a few drinks and end up holding two glasses and then keep drinking until the end of the show.”

But he admitted there are times when some guests let slip swear words on-air because they forget they’re on a live show.

He added to the Daily Star: “We all swear far more when we’re in a relaxed situation than when you’re being formal.

“So we get a lot of that. There are times when the guests actually forget that they’re on telly, which is really lovely.”

Simon’s comments comes just as guest Tracy let slip a rude word on the show today.

Promoting her new season of Friday Night Dinner and her brand new stage show, she opened up about being trolled online.

She said: “I usually just got some tweets or the occasional d**k pic…”

Sunday Brunch airs on Sundays at 9.30am on Channel 4.
