Simon Rimmer planning very different career move away from Channel 4's Sunday Brunch

We’re used to seeing him cooking up a storm on Sunday Brunch, but Simon Rimmer has set his sights on a very different career move away from the Channel 4 show.

The chef, 60, is planning on writing a crime novel after being encouraged to do it by two guests on Sunday Brunch. Speaking about his plans, Simon told MailOnline: “I have decided for my 60th that I’m going to have a testimonial year.

“The goal that I have tried to set myself I have been trying to write a book for years and I’ve never done it. We had Josie Long on the show last week and she said I should book myself a week away in a little cottage on my own somewhere and I would really like to do it.”

The television personality was also told to become a writer by a second guest after she was impressed by his work. He continued: “Marian Keyes was on the show about three years ago and we had to write for her and she said, You really should write, this is really good.’

“Then she came on the second time and we had to write something else for her and she said, ‘I told you before, this is really good. Maybe this is the year to do it.'”

Simon hosts Sunday Brunch with co-host Tim Lovejoy and features cookery and interviews with celebrity guests.

The show began airing on the channel back in February 2012 and is a hit with viewers who tune in to watch the morning programme every weekend.

In January, Simon announced that his restaurant, Greens in Didsbury, would be closing its doors after 33 years.

He had founded the Greater Manchester eatery in partnership with Simon Connolly in the 90s.

Simon took to Instagram to share a picture of himself outside the restaurant as he penned an emotional goodbye.

He told his 189 thousand followers: “Today we said goodbye to @greensdidsbury, 33 years of my life coming to a sad end.

“Thanks and love to all who’ve been on our journey. @simonconnollygreens and I are proud of what we’ve achieved.

“Love, hugs, tears and we’ll carry on the journey @greenssale xxx,” he added. (sic)
