Simon Rimmer: ‘I had to leave’ Sunday Brunch host’s former co-star addresses show exit

Kate Quilton, 35, worked alongside Simon Rimmer, 56, on Channel 4 series Tricks of the Restaurant Trade back in 2016, but departed from the show the following year. The Animal Rescue Live 2019 host opened up about her decision to leave the programme, which provides an insider’s guide to eating out and ordering in. The presenter exclusively revealed to Express.co.uk: “Unfortunately I only got to make one series of Tricks of the Restaurant Trade and I absolutely loved it. “It’s still going now with Simon Rimmer and Adam Pearson, who is a fantastic presenter as well.”

Kate went on to admit she had no choice but to leave the series due to its busy filming schedule.

The star continued: “I had to leave that little gang because I didn’t have time to work on the show.”

The TV personality also took the opportunity to gush about her former co-host and described him as a “master of live television”.

She added: “I loved it and it was a joy to work with Simon Rimmer, he’s still a pal now and we still see each other so he’s great and it’s always fun going on Sunday Brunch because he’s brilliant at his job.

“He’s a master of live television, he’s incredibly relaxed and makes everyone feel incredibly relaxed.

“I’ve appeared on Sunday Brunch before to talk about a couple of different shows and it’s always great fun.”

The blonde beauty said: “I would say this show is a really special project. I’ve never worked on anything quite like it.

“The joy you feel on set and the joy with the animals is really quite extraordinary and it’s an amazing feeling to go to work where, at the end of the show, we find out within minutes that say, for example, there’s a dog that’s been in a shelter for a whole year and it’s just been unlucky or hasn’t found the right mum and dad.

“Then you find out a few minutes after going off air that 25 people have been on the phone and he’s going to have six visits the next day.

“You just feel like you’re making a difference to these animals’ lives and the families who give them their home.”

This year’s series of Animal Rescue Live is asking viewers for donations to help support the important work shelters do every day.

Sunday Brunch airs today at 9:30am on Channel 4 while Animal Rescue Live: Supervet Special is available to watch on All 4.
