Selling Sunset season 4: release date, plot and the new cast members set to spice things up

It’s official: Selling Sunset is coming back for a fourth (and fifth!) season and we couldn’t be any more excited.

It’s the glitzy reality show many of us got hooked on in Lockdown 1.0 and the cast members have just started filming season 4 and 5 which means it could be on our screens by the end of the year.

The show centres around the real estate agents of The Oppenheim Group – a luxury property agency on the Sunset Strip in LA – and the multi-million dollar houses they are selling (as well as a healthy dose of in-office drama). If it feels slightly familiar, it’s because the show was created by the same people who made The Hills (the 00s show that made us all want to be Lauren Conrad).

The cast of Selling Sunset (which includes Christine Quinn, Mary Fitzgerald, Chrishell Stause, Heather Young, Maya Vander, Amanza Smith and Davina Potratz) is also welcoming two new cast members this season, so expect even more drama.

When will Selling Sunset season 4 air?

While Selling Sunset has been confirmed to return for a fourth and fifth season (yay!), Netflix is still being coy about a potential release date for season 4.

However one of our faves, Mary, recently posted to Instagram, writing: “Selling Sunset Season 4 & 5 is coming soooo soon and I think this picture accurately displays my excitement.” So we hope that means we’ll get a fourth installment of the series in the coming months.

If the timing of the last series are anything to go by, season 1 of Selling Sunset was released in March 2019 and the second season dropped in March 2020 (who else binged it during lockdown?!) with season 3 dropping not too long afterwards in August 2020.

While Covid pushed back filming for the next two instalments slightly, it looks as if we’ll be getting another season – if not two more – by the end of the year.

What happened in season 3 again?

Right, well as season 2 and 3 were dropped so closely together, we’ll give you a little recap.

While season 1 was all about introducing us to the ridiculously lush life that these high-end real estate agents lead and gave us a good dose of house porn thanks to the sneak peeks of the gargantuan homes in the Hollywood hills, season 2 was all about the group’s dynamics.

Mary and Chrishell had become firm friends, with Christine, Davina and Heather being seen as the ‘mean girls’. Maya was still living her best carefree life and we were introduced to Amanza, the newest agent and one of Mary’s long-time friends. So clear sides had formed.

The end of season 2 saw Mary and Romain get married in a beautiful backyard wedding and we pick up with the gang in season 3 with some fresh drama courtesy of Davina and Christine who accused Heather of staging paparazzi photos with her new beau, fellow reality star Tarek El Moussa.

Meanwhile, the second half of season 3 sees Chrishell get blindsided by her divorce (to Justin Hartley of This is Us fame) and Christine is busy planning her grandiose wedding. The climax is when Chrishell walks out of Christine’s wedding as it all gets a little too much for her with some of the girls (hi Davina) prying too far into her private life.

What will the plot lines for season 4 be?

So, where does that leave us for season 4? With Heather and Tarek now engaged, another wedding might be on the cards for the gang (who knows what drama that will bring).

The show could also air more of a fallout from Chrishell’s divorce as her ex has just re-married, so we may get to see how she handles this. Of course, Chrishell and Christine, the show’s archenemies, are bound to have some drama-fuelled friction between them.

We may also see Maya leave LA for good – she’s been vocal about finding it hard to go between LA and Miami (where her husband lives) now that she has two young kids. At the end of the last season we saw her pitching a possible office opening in Miami.

Christine has just given birth to her first child (!). She and husband Christian Richard welcomed their baby son, Christian Georges Dumontet, on 15 May this year just 48 hours after they attended the MTV Movie & TV Awards. From the pics that Mary has posted teasing the show so far, it looks as if Christine is heavily pregnant during filming so we might get a glimpse at how she’s handling a first-time pregnancy (as well as all the totally extra outfits she’ll don).

It’s unclear whether everyone’s favourite cast member to hate (sorry Davina) will return for the new seasons as she left The Oppenheim Group last year. However, earlier this year she told Radio Times that her new role is ‘not a forever opportunity’ and that she was ‘sure’ she’d be part of the new season. So we’ll have to wait and see.

Who will (and won’t) be in the Selling Sunset cast?

While there’s still a big question mark hanging over whether Davina will return, the rest of the regular cast members will be back for the fourth season at least. And there will be two new cast members joining them.

Earlier this week, Netflix announced that the Oppenheim couches are ‘getting a little more crowded’ this season.

“Vanessa Villela, a Mexican-American novela star turned real estate agent and Emma Hernan, an entrepreneur who has an interesting history with the ladies have joined the cast,” the streaming service tweeted.

Like Chrishell (who was a soap opera star before trying her hand at real estate), Vanessa has also made the switch calling it her ‘latest passion’. The new cast member wrote on Instagram: “I was able to manifest this dream of blending my background in acting with my latest passion in real estate.I want to help empower and show others to never give up on yourself or your dreams.”

Emma also shared a post to her Instagram account, writing: “The secret is out!!! I am beyond excited to announce I will be joining the cast of @netflix Selling Sunset! Can’t wait to share more about my life and career in season 4 coming soon!!”

Eeep, we can’t wait to see what this season has in store for us.
