Duvet coats are easily the coolest coat trend of the year, and despite the (albeit v. slow) creeping in of summer, searches for the style are up 432% right now. Sure, it’s unheard of for winter coats to be selling in such high numbers in mid-April… but what part of the past year has been precedented?
There’s a good reason for the surge. We know the story all too well: you’ve rushed out for your first pint-on-tap in what feels like *forever*, taken to your little spot in the corner of your fave beer garden and then SHIVERED for the remaining two hours of your allotted booking time. Nope: a little denim jacket or your trusty blazer just isn’t going to cut it if you’re socialising after the sun has gone down. Not that we should’ve expected anything other. It’s England. It’s April. It’s never very warm.
The sartorial equivalent to heading out, slipper-clad, wrapped up in your *actual* duvet, the duvet coat (or quilted coat/padded coat/puffer) will keep you cosy and content as you catch up with your mates outdoors this spring. And forget thoughts that a duvet coat purchase will be wasted money if temperatures soar after a month. Their appearance on the runways of Bottega Veneta and Prada means they’ve been big news for the past few winters – and are set to remain popular for many moons to come. They’re effortlessly chic and can be worn over loungewear/actual workwear forever. Trust us: these things aren’t going anywhere.
There are plenty of duvet coat iterations to go around, and since they’re actually out of season, plenty of them are reduced in price. Opt for something that’s cut below your knee, and size up for that cocoon-like oversized aesthetic.
