On average, we eat five fast-food meals a month with each costing £7.60, adding up to an annual takeaway bill of £456.

But don’t worry, just pull a fakeaway and get your fix for less . . .

MEAT FEAST: Save pounds on post-party kebabs, usually around £6 from kebab shops, by stocking up on Babek doner kebab meat, £2 for 600g, from Iceland.

If you want to make the meal healthier pile up on veg on the cheap. I love the Super 6 deals at Aldi and wonky potatoes, £1.20 from Morrisons — perfect for homemade chips and cheaper than their ‘perfect’ counterpart, £1.50.

SAVE: at least £4

PERI GOOD: Who doesn’t love a Nando’s? If it’s the famous peri-peri seasoning you crave, you can easily make a copycat meal platter (around £20.45 at Nando’s).

Pick up a whole medium chicken from Tesco for £3 and marinate it in the supermarket’s piri-piri seasoning, 90p. It is the same type of seasoning as at Nando’s, it’s just spelt slightly differently.

Love a side? Nab bags of mini corn on the cobs for £1 at Iceland and a bag of straight-cut oven chips for the same. Easy.

SAVE: Around £14.55

SLICE THE PRICE: Pizza lovers can easily re-create their favourite — and save dough at the same time. Kids will love going DIY and it gives everyone a chance to get creative with toppings.

At Asda, ready-rolled pizza dough is £1. Tesco has 36 pizza pepperoni slices for £1, plus you can nab two bags of grated Mozzarella for £3 (usually £1.90 each). With a large pepperoni pizza costing up to £19.99, you’ll save a fortune.

SAVING: around £15
SCALE IT BACK: Cod and chips now costs an average £7.81, but buying frozen cod fillets can save pounds, while opting for generic “white fish” lets you hook even more savings. Get six fillets from Asda for £2.87 and Iceland oven chips, £1.
