Samuel Johnson has been crowned as the winner of Dancing With The Stars in a shock victory.

With favourite Courtney Act expected to take the crown, even the 41-year-old was stunned, stuttering:  ‘I just want to say Courtney is the better dancer!’

The actor was left largely speechless as the win was announced, but took the last minutes of airtime to scream out: ‘I am trying to kick cancer in the face. HELP ME!’

Samuel and his partner Jorja Freeman opened the grand finale with an encore of their sixth week ‘Mr Bojangles’ jazz dance.

The lamppost-swinging number earned the duo a score of 29 – which they then replicated in their final dance.

Their second dance, a freestyle number, earned high praise from host Grant Denyer – who compared him to Hugh Jackman.

“I’ve gone from the kid glued to the wall at the blue light disco to the grand finale of ‘Dancing With The Stars,’ Samuel said after his final performance.

They won $50,000 for their chosen charity, Love Your Sister.

Their final dance won the praises of the judges, with Sharna Burgess describing the dance as ‘phenomenal’.

‘Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant,’ judge Craig Revel-Horwood added.

After claiming victory, Samuel shared a moment with host Grant Denyer about handing each other their respective awards.

‘I gave you your Golden Logie!’ Samuel joked, to which Grant responded ‘And I gave you your mirrorball!’

The foundation was set up by the former The Secret Life of Us star and his sister, Connie, who died of breast cancer two years ago.

The win sent shockwaves through the Twitter-sphere, with fans having expected Courtney and her partner to win.

‘I mean Courtney Act has been on the top of her and this game throughout the whole series – but hey,’ one user wrote.

‘Courtney you are the winner in my eyes,’ another added.

Samuel actually came slightly behind in the judge’s voting to Courtney on the night – missing out on a score of ten from the hard-to-please Craig Revel-Horwood.

The entertainer, 37, and her partner Joshua Keefe recorded the highest score of the season, receiving a perfect ten from the panel of judges for their second dance.
