Love Island star Sam Gowland has revealed his heartbreak after cancelling dinner with Mike Thalassitis days before his tragic death.
Sam and Mike met on the 2017 series of Love Island and Sam, 23, has now admitted that the pair postponed their dinner because they both ‘ended up being busy’.
Sadly days later Mike died by suicide.
‘It’s obviously really sad. I was speaking to him four days before and we were meant to go out for food as I was playing a charity football match in London,’ said Sam.
‘But we both ended up being busy, so we said we’d do it the week after. And then a few days later the news broke.’
Speaking to new! magazine, he added: ‘All my thoughts are with his family at the minute.’
Police confirmed Mike died by suicide after his body was found hanged in a North London park.
In a statement to Metro.co.uk, a Met spokesperson said: ‘Police were called to a park near Latymer Way, N9 at 09:28hrs on Saturday, 16 March to reports of a man found hanged.
‘Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended and found a man, aged in his 20s, deceased.’
‘At this early stage, the death is not being treated as suspicious,’ they added.
‘Police are in the process of informing the man’s next of kin. A file will be prepared for the coroner.’
It’s believed Mike’s death came days after his nan passed away aged 94, who he had moved in with to become her full-time carer.
Mike, a former semi-professional footballer, was set to open his own restaurant, with reports indicating a reveal was set to take place next week.
The reality star came to fame back in 2017, after appearing on season three of Love Island, alongside Chris, Kem Cetinay and Amber Davies.
