Saffron Barker: ‘Not proper dancing’ Strictly guest slams star's move with AJ Pritchard

Strictly Come Dancing 2019 duo AJ Pritchard, 24, and Saffron Barker, 19, will perform a contemporary routine on the show this weekend.

In a discussion about the pair on Strictly: It Takes Two, Tom Allen, 36, shared his thoughts about the pair.

As a video of the duo in rehearsals was played in the studio, Tom praised the pair but slammed the dance genre contemporary.

Host Zoe Ball said to Tom: “Let’s talk about Saffron… contemporary… she’s covered in bruises, no shoes, it’s one of those.”

She then asked Tom: “Are you liking the feel of this?”

Seeming unimpressed, he replied: “What is contemporary dancing? We can all shake our bum against a wardrobe, like it’s not proper dancing is it?”

He then added of YouTube star Saffron: “And the thing with Saffron which is very good is, she’s a YouTuber isn’t she?

“And a lot of the time we don’t know if they can dance because we never see them above their waist.

“We don’t even know if they’ve got legs, we just see them in their office chair.

“But she’s been very good, I like Saffron, I like her a lot.”

Tomorrow night, Saffron and AJ will perform the Couple’s Choice (Contemporary) dance to Celina Dion’s hit Because You Loved Me.

Last weekend, they performed a Paso Doble in a Hunger Games-themed dance as part of movie week.

Their efforts scored them 28 out of 40 points by the four judges.

Earlier this week, AJ Pritchard addressed a mistake that viewers may have missed on the show in an interview on This Morning.

Presenter Holly Willoughby said to Saffron: “You are suffering for this aren’t you? You’re covered in bruises, he slapped you around the face.”

“He did slap me around the face, yes,” Saffron remarked.

Holly then asked: “What happened there then?”

“Not on purpose, obviously not on purpose,” AJ added, reassuringly. “We were just getting into that Paso Doble.

“And it just yeah, it went a bit too much night but don’t worry because then she stamped on my toe because I arrived 25 minutes late. You know how it is.

“It was worth it for the dance on the night.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues tomorrow at 6.40pm on BBC One.
