FAME-HUNGRY Sadiq Khan is failing to tackle knife crime because he’s obsessed with his own career, the closest pal of murdered teen Stephen Lawrence blasted today.
Duwayne Brooks – who was with tragic Stephen when he was killed – accused the London Mayor of non-stop “self-promotion”.
He called on the Labour politician to take responsibility and raged: “We are fed up with Khan’s excuses.”
Mr Brooks witnessed the murder of 18-year-old Stephen by a gang of racist thugs in 1993.
He is now a youth activist who campaigns against violent crime.
Writing in the Mail on Sunday, he accused “publicity-hungry” Mr Khan of failing to stop the rise in stabbings in London.
Mr Brooks said: “He has refused to take responsibility or show real leadership. It is all very well for him to roll his eyes and lose his temper when questioned, as he did last week on TV.
“The fact is he is failing abysmally – and his failure is costing the lives of our valuable young people on a weekly basis.”

He added: “All Khan thinks about is self-promotion in my view – and, in particular, his political career.
“It is no secret that his ambition is to become Labour leader in the post-Corbyn era, and then Prime Minister. I believe that this is what consumes his energies, not the crisis on the streets.”
The capital’s Mayor has blamed the knife crisis on Government funding cuts, claiming he is powerless to solve the epidemic.
Mr Brooks has devoted his life to preventing youth crime after being caught up in Stephen’s murder.
The two black teens were targeted by a gang of white thugs who stabbed Stephen to death after shouting out a racist slur.
Two of the gang are serving life in prison after being convicted of murder.
