Loose Women star Ruth Langsford has opened up about her husband Eamonn Holmes’ health struggles, worrying that he will ‘never be 100% right’.
The GB News presenter, 64, is recovering from surgery and an injury to his shoulder, and has been seen using a walking crutch since 2021 after he slipped three discs in his back.
In 2022, Eammon revealed he lost ‘full mobility’ after undergoing spinal surgery following chronic issues with back pain, which left him off air for almost four months as he recovered.
Ruth, 64, has now addressed his health, saying: ‘I don’t know how much Eamonn’s mobility will improve. We live in hope.
‘He does the physio, but there might have to be some acceptance that this might never be 100% right.
‘With any care situation – and there are millions of carers in this country – it isn’t always easy. It’s testing but we manage as a family.’
She added to Woman’s Weekly: ‘I look at Eamonn, who’s had his health and back problems, and it makes you realise how important your health is.’
Earlier this year, Eamonn said his health issues had prevented him from travelling to Belfast for the funeral of his mother, Josie, last year and that he felt ‘confined’ t a wheelchair.
‘It’s as if somebody up there is playing with my life. In the past year, I’ve had an operation on my back which went wrong and has confined me to a wheelchair,’ he said on GB News.
‘I’ve fallen and broken my shoulder. Honestly, you could not make it up.’
Eamonn also opened up about the toll his poor health has take last year, saying: ‘I get resentful that I’m not the way I used to be but I just get on with it.’
He spoke about how ‘trying hard’ to get back on his feet and heaped praise on his wife of 14 years Ruth for her unwavering support.
He added to The Mirror: ‘I work hard at trying to walk. It’s very hard to get through a normal day but I have help from people around me.’
Eamonn went on: ‘Ruth’s not a particularly tolerant person but my god I’m so indebted to her. She’s from an army family and she just gets on with it, she’s a tour de force.’
However, Eamonn sadly told the outlet that ‘nothing much is getting better and no one has a prognosis as to whether it will get better’.
The star first experienced back pain which came out of nowhere in 2021 and later discovered he had three slipped disks, affecting the mobility in his right leg.
He underwent spinal surgery in 2022 but suffered a major setback when he fell down the stairs, later saying he ‘smashed’ his shoulder.
‘[The operation] has set me back and made me fall down stairs. My leg gave way and I fell down 18 stairs,’ he said: adding: ‘What am I supposed to do? How do you get to bed? So I fell down the spiral staircase, smashed my right shoulder.’
