Earlier this year, Rose revealed that she had lost her sense of smell following a car accident five years ago.

During an interview with Ed Gamble and James Acaster for their podcast show Off Menu, the actress shared how she was left without her sense of smell after her head collided with a car door in a valet accident in Los Angeles.

Following the accident, the star, who became an iconic face during the #MeToo movement, described how she underwent tests by Harvard scientists and how her sense of smell had now been heightened.

She told the podcast hosts: ‘I found out about five years ago. I did a series of tests at Harvard because I lost my sense of smell in a freak accident. They were studying me because I could still taste which is normally interrelated.

‘I got hit in the head with a car door in a freak valet accident in Los Angeles.’

The actress added: ‘Afterwards, everything became like a taste explosion and too much. That’s why they were studying me at Harvard Medical School.

‘I would go once every couple of months. I was in New York so would just go down to Boston which is a couple of states away.

‘They would have strips on my tongue seeing the acid levels and trying to get me to smell things – but I couldn’t.’

The actress, who rose to fame as the character Paige Matthews in the supernatural drama Charmed, has since become a leading activist for LGBTQ rights and an outspoken critic of her former lawyers Jose Baez and Ron Sullivan for agreeing to represent disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein.
