West Ham United midfielder Robert Snodgrass has urged his teammates to be ‘ruthless’ in their relegation battle, but insists his side will survive.

The Hammers currently sit in the bottom three in the Premier League table, one point away from 17th placed Aston Villa.

In their next 13 games, David Moyes’ side face a gruelling schedule, starting with the clash at the Etihad Stadium against Manchester City on Wednesday night.

They also have to play unbeaten Liverpool, as well as Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United.

However, Scotland international Snodgrass maintains West Ham can stay up, he told talkSPORT: ‘Yes, I firmly believe we can. We’ve got the players to do so. I think the Brighton game [3-3 draw] everyone will be disappointed with because we were in a great position and a few mistakes slipped, that’s when you let teams back in.

‘In the Premier League if we are going to stay up we have to stop letting teams back into the game. Be ruthless and go and finish teams off, that’s what we’re working on.

‘We’ve got more than enough talent to be up in the top 10 and fighting, but sometimes it doesn’t go for you.

‘You need to be very harsh on the lads and let them know when you’re in a winning position and you throw away 19 points, at any level that’s not good enough.

‘Players know that’s not good enough. The manager’s told us at this level you can’t let that happen. That’s exactly what he’s [the manager] addressed.

‘For the next 13 games, it’s up to us go out and prove it.’

Snodgrass credits the West Ham supporters who he feels will be vital in their relegation fight.

He added: ‘I can’t speak highly enough of the fans, they’ve been terrific. What you want from fans when you’re down the bottom of the table is a drive and a push.

‘Of course they [the fans] will be frustrated, everyone is frustrated we’re down there, it’s very very difficult to put your finger on [why].

‘We’ve got some massive games coming up and we need them [the fans] as much as anything because they’re the ones that will be pushing us through and seeing us over the line.’
