Hero-to-zero Rishi Sunak’s deadly dithering will cost lives.

The Chancellor fatally failed to unveil detailed help for the 5 million self-employed alongside the waged last week and instead delayed it until tomorrow.

Everybody else – trade union leaders, Labour MPs, some Tories and sole traders and freelancers themselves – instantly spotted the lethal hole in his earnings safety net.

Forcing grafters to choose between going to work and staying at home virtually penniless was playing Russian roulette – because in the hiatus, a number will undoubtedly have become unnecessarily infected and in turn passed the disease to others unwittingly.
