Riot Games has announced a multi-year partnership with Mexican TV sports network Azteca Deportes and esports arena chain Arena Cinemex for its Latin American League of Legends league, Liga Latinoamérica (LLA).
The deal will help enable the league’s move to Mexico City next season, from its current base of operations in Santiago, Chile, as well as increase production values and feature a live studio audience for league matches. It will also broaden the reach of LLA content via Azteca Deportes’ media channels.
“The 2019 season has been one full of change and evolution for the LLA, but above all, it’s been a year where the growth in week-to-week fan support was noticed on broadcasts and through content,” reads a post on the official LOL Esports website. “The audience surge that we’ve had, paired with the content consumption and commercial agreements, have opened new doors, allowing us to close a deal with Azteca Deportes and Arena Cinemex that we believe will be transcendental for our league in the upcoming years.”
Although regular season matches will move to Mexico City, Riot Games plans continue hosting live finals events throughout Latin America. The LLA began play earlier this year after Riot Games consolidated two previous regional leagues: Chile’s Copa Latinoamérica Sur (CLS) and Mexico’s Liga Latinoamérica Norte (LLN).
