Richard E Grant called by police as his stolen car ram-raids shop while he's in quarantine

Loki actor Richard E. Grant has taken to social media to reveal that his car had been “stolen” and used to “ram-raid a Tesco Express”. The Withnail and I star, 64, is currently in quarantine having returned from South Africa where he was visiting his mother when the coronavirus rules changed, forcing him to quarantine in a hotel after his visit to the red-list country.

In view of his 278,400 followers, the actor relayed the bad news, which he received in the early hours of this morning.

Richard wrote: “Withnail Covid quarantine quote for Wednesday.

“Woken at 4am – police called to report that my car had been stolen and used to ram-raid a Tesco Express!

“Like my pal @EricIdle is won’t to warble, ‘ALWAYS LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE OF LIFE!'” he added.

The bad news comes days after the Withnail actor hit out at the government over his quarantine hotel meals.

The actor took to his Twitter account to reveal the meals he had been given while staying at the “£228 per day” accommodation.

He shared a photograph featuring a sausage stew, a tuna sandwich, a grain-based side dish, a small carton of orange juice, battered fish, and a side of chips.

According to the actor, a nearby hotel that was not being used to quarantine travellers was charging less than half of his hotel’s price.

He also pointed out that the four star hotel he was staying in was “under reconstruction”, while admitting that he was “confounded” about the breakdown of his hotel stay.

He said: “In quarantine at Gatwick 4* Holiday Inn (under reconstruction) charged £228 per day.

“These 3 meals amount to approx £20.”

The star went on: “Non quarantine Holiday Inn nearby costs £89 incl breakfast.

“How does Gov justify this cost to a traveller for ‘hospitality’. You do the maths as am confounded!” (sic) he ended his post.
