Resident Evil 3 Remake release date, trailers and gameplay news

Resident Evil is one of the longest-running and most successful horror franchises of all time, spawning multiple films, books and even audio dramas.

However, gaming is where it has really made a name for itself, with a string of acclaimed titles. As a result of this enduring, developers Capcom are remaking some of the classics, bringing them up to date with modern hardware.

Following the success of the Resident Evil 2 remake in 2019, the third game in the trilogy is set to receive similar enhancements. Here’s everything we know about the 2020 version of Resident Evil 3.

When will the Resident Evil 3 remake be released?

We have a confirmed release date – 3 April 2020

What platforms will Resident Evil 3 be playable on?

The game will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC at launch.

There’s no word yet on availability for upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X, but considering the regularity with which the game has been ported in the past, it’s likely it will make its way onto next-gen consoles at some point.

Latest Resident Evil trailer

Here is the announcement trailer for the remake, released during the State of Play presentation in December 2019. There are some pretty harrowing scenes, but that’s to be expected from the Resident Evil series.

What can we expect from the Resident Evil 3 remake?

If you’ve played the original, or any of the Resident Evil games in fact, you’ll know what to expect. Capcom has tried to retain action-centric premise of RE3, while adding some modern touches that bring the game up to date. These include third-person gameplay and a dedicated online multiplayer mode, both of which were introduced in later versions.

Many fans of the series enjoyed the tasteful additions in the Resident Evil 2 remake, and there’s likely to be a similar approach here.

While we wouldn’t recommend this game as your introduction to the series, those new to the franchise will be relieved to know that the premise behind the game is pretty simple. As you navigate the unfamiliar world, various people and scenarios will attempt to scare and impede you in the pursuit of your goal. The series was considered to have created a new genre when the first Resident Evil was made, known as “survival horror”.

This specific title is related to the third game in the original trilogy. Originally subtitled Nemesis, it involves the protagonist trying to escape from a city that has been infected with a deadly virus, with a zombie apocalypse having taken place as a result. Despite being a follow-up, events in the game actually take place before those in Resident Evil 2.
