A reboot was initially discussed back in 2015
Cult teen horror The Craft is getting a remake and will reportedly begin filming this summer.
Originally released in 1996, the film followed a clique of high school students who discover the secrets of witchcraft but don’t always use them wisely. A young Neve Campbell starred alongside Robin Tunney, Rachel True, and Fairuza Balk.
Now, a Production Weekly listing suggests that a reboot of the movie is being produced by Blumhouse. The post states that Zoe Lister-Jones will be in the director’s chair, while also serving as a co-writer alongside Daniel Casey. Shooting is said to begin this July.
“A remake of the 1996 supernatural teen thriller,” a brief description of the project reads. “When starting at a new school, Hannah befriends Tabby, Lourdes, and Frankie & quickly becomes the fourth member of their Clique. Hannah soon learns that she somehow brings great power to the quartet.”
Although the main characters’ names have been changed, further details on the reboot are not yet known.
Co-writer Daniel Casey was previously attached to a reported Leigh Janiak-directed remake back in 2015. According to Bloody Disgusting, Janiak is not involved and the movie won’t be set two decades in the future as first suggested.
