A number of Real Madrid fans criticised Eden Hazard after he was seen laughing with Chelsea’s players following his team’s Champions League semi-final defeat at Stamford Bridge.

Thomas Tuchel’s Blues booked their place in the Champions League with a 3-1 aggregate win over 13-time winners Real Madrid.

The first tie in Spain finished 1-1 but Chelsea outplayed their opponents in west London on Tuesday night, with goals from Timo Werner and Mason Mount setting up an all-English final against Manchester City.

Real Madrid’s Hazard struggled to make an impact in both matches against his former club and was seen talking to some of his ex-teammates following this evening’s defeat.

Former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchinson told BBC Radio 5 Live: ‘I’ve just seen some bizarre scenes.

‘Eden Hazard is laughing with Kurt Zouma and Edouard Mendy. It’s a Champions League semi-final.

‘I know they are his friends but I can’t imagine Cristiano Ronaldo coming off the pitch for Real Madrid laughing. That’s how laid back Hazard is.

‘I’m not criticising him. I just find it a bit of a weird watch.’

The incident caused a storm on social media, with many Real Madrid fans unhappy with his reaction so soon after their Champions League exit.

Speaking after Chelsea’s Champions League semi-final win over Real Madrid, Blues captain Cesar Azpilicueta said: ‘We had a tough opponent but the team performed really well and we scored two goals.

‘We can’t forget the saves from Edouard Mendy in the first half. The second half we were clearly better and we had a few chances to score more goals – but we fought really hard.

‘This campaign in the Champions League we have played two Spanish teams, but the most important thing is we are in the final. There is one more step and we will try to win, of course.

‘We have a fantastic squad, everybody pushes hard in training, to be together, to fight for everyone and to help each other. This is massive and we have created a strong group. We have plenty of things to fight for.’
