Razer and Tencent Partner for Mobile Services and Optimization

Hardware maker Razer Database-Link-e1521645463907 and Chinese gaming giant Tencent Database-Link-e1521645463907 today revealed a partnership that is focused on mobile gaming, including possible joint service offerings from the companies.

The firms will collaborate to optimize Razer’s hardware and software for Tencent’s mobile games. Razer has released a pair of Razer Phone brand gaming smartphones since late 2017, and also makes mobile accessories like physical gamepads. Its Razer Cortex app is a gaming hub that helps players find games and maximize performance for smartphones.

Tencent is the publisher behind such games as Arena of Valor (Honor of Kings in China) and PUBG Mobile, the mobile adaptation of PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS Database-Link-e1521645463907. The companies will also “explore additional monetization opportunities” in the space, according to a release, such as integration with Razer’s mobile services.

“Mobile gaming keeps growing at an incredible pace, and at Razer, we are poised to be a leader in the segment,” said Razer co-founder and CEO Min-Liang Tan, in a release. “We have been working with Tencent since 2008, and are excited to now enter into a collaboration with them to spearhead future innovation in the space. With the strengths of Tencent and Razer combined, we are going to supercharge the mobile gaming industry.”

Both companies are heavily invested in esports. Razer sponsors a wide array of organizations, including mobile-centric teams like Tribe Gaming and Team Queso, as well as others like SK Telecom T1 Database-Link-e1521645463907, 100 Thieves Database-Link-e1521645463907, Immortals Database-Link-e1521645463907, and Gen.G Esports Database-Link-e1521645463907.

Tencent is especially focused on mobile esports, with the Chinese King Pro League for Honor of Kings, as well as a growing push for PUBG Mobile including a year-long event with a $2M USD prize pool.
