Ranvir Singh: ‘I’ll miss you very much’ GMB star in farewell to colleague amid rival move

Ranvir Singh addressed the big move in view of her 48,000 Twitter followers on Saturday, saying BBC Breakfast was “lucky” to be getting them. The Good Morning Britain regular reacted to a post by head of ITN Programmes, Richard Frediani. He will be moving to their “rival” show fronted by Dan Walker and Louise Minchin, and he spoke out on their final shift together. The political editor was seen in a smiley selfie with her outgoing colleague, while the busy newsroom could be seen behind them.

Richard captioned it: “Possibly my last official @itvnews shift with @ranvir01 a very good friend going back 20+ years.

“A fellow #Preston hack and soon to be a broadcast rival (again!) in the @BBCBreakfast vs @gmb morning battle… #BringItOn #Frexit #Frenemy.”

She shared the upload, writing: “I will miss you so very much – brilliant instincts, straight talking, always cares about the audience first. Lucky gang @BBCBreakfast!”

He responded with a winking emoji and a tearful one, after the news of his move first emerged back in July.

Fredi – as Richard is otherwise known – was responsible for the day to day output of ITV’s 6.30pm national evening news, as well as being acting head of programmes for all ITV News output.

He said when his new role was announced: “I am thrilled to be appointed editor of BBC Breakfast. It’s a brilliant opportunity to set the news agenda as well as entertain millions of viewers every morning.

“Breakfast TV is the best place to showcase a window on the world. I’ve been fortunate to work with some incredibly talented broadcasters at ITV and I am really looking forward to an exciting new challenge and working with a fantastic team on and off screen at the BBC in Media City and beyond.”

BBC’s head of news, Gavin Allen, also said: “Fredi is a hugely talented and experienced TV journalist and leader.

“He will ensure audience interests are kept at the heart of the programme, combining editorial boldness and creativity to tackle the issues that matter most to viewers.“

He succeeds Adam Bullimore who is moving to take up a new role as head of BBC Weather in London.

Meanwhile, Ranvir has been involved in GMB since 2014, after working on other ITV show This Morning and Daybreak.

She also fronts Eat, Shop, Save, and has been involved in The Martin Lewis Money Show and Exposure: When Pregnant Women Drink.

She started out at BBC Radio Lancashire in 2002, before moving to BBC GMR, covering the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester.

It comes just weeks after Ranvir Singh was slammed for a heated debate with Robert Jenrick over the housing crisis.

Some GMB fans weren’t happy after she spoke with the Conservative MP, as many thought she was shouting and interrupting the secretary of state for housing, communities and local government.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV, while BBC Breakfast airs at the same time on BBC One.
