Queen’s Speech 2019 news LIVE: Boris Johnson vows to work ‘flat out’ to deliver ‘new golden age’



Here’s a look at the key events between now and the end of the year.

Monday: Reshuffle to replace Nicky Morgan and Alun Cairns in Cabinet, plus news on the fate of Zac Goldsmith as environment secretary after he lost his Richmond Park seat. PM to address new MPs.

 

Tuesday: MPs elect the new Commons speaker, Sir Lindsay Hoyle. He will then begin the process of swearing them into Parliament.

 

Thursday: State opening of Parliament. The Queen’s Speech will outline the new government’s legislative programme. MPs will then begin debating its contents.

 

Friday: Debate on Queen’s speech set to continue. However, this is likely to be interrupted by a second reading of the government’s Withdrawal Agreement Bill. 

 

January 6:  Withdrawal Bill to be debated in detail this week.

 

January 29: Parliament must have passed the Withdrawal Bill by this stage in order for it to be ratified by the European parliament.

 

January 31: Britain will leave the EU at 11pm.
