PS4 game release date WARNING: Sony exclusive is good news for PlayStation 4

PS4 gamers got the shock news today that one of the big launches planned for 2020 could remain a PlayStation exclusive.

Many expect Final Fantasy 7 Remake to be a best-seller on the PS4, with a release date set for March next year.

But a strange leak and a further announcement made by Square Enix appears to have confirmed some massive launch news, which could affect those on Xbox One and PC.

This includes the shock reveal that the Final Fantasy 7 Remake could remain exclusive to the PS4 platform in the future.

It follows a surprise leak from the Xbox social media team in Germany, which seemed to confirm a launch for FF7 Remake on the Xbox One.

However, a further statement from the social media team revealed that the video they had shared had been a mistake.

One regional Xbox team member explained: “Hey. We did an internal mistake in the Social Team. We took the video off immediately. Sorry, no announcement on our side. Big apologies for this. (Sic)”

The aftermath of this suggested that Final Fantasy 7 Remake could arrive at some point in the future on the Xbox platform, like other projects have done so in the past.

But a further statement has been released by Square Enix, which appears to rule out the release of FF7 on the Xbox One.

Speaking to videogameschronicle, Square Enix confirmed that they had no plans to launch Final Fantasy 7 Remake on any other platform but the PS4.

“As previously announced, Final Fantasy VII Remake will be released for the PlayStation 4 on March 3rd 2020.

“We have no plans for other platforms,” the Square Enix statement to VGC reads.

This will come as a bit of a bombshell for some gamers who were hoping to see it arrive on the Xbox One and PC.

But it’s also interesting to note that the statement only confirms the PlayStation 4, and doesn’t mention Sony’s future console.

With Final Fantasy 7 Remake launching in episodic chunks, it would make sense that the complete game won’t be available to purchase until the PS5 is released.

So why not have the full collection available on the next-gen console at some point?

We would guess that FF7 Remake could become available on other platforms in the years to come.

But what this new Square Enix statement suggests is that this won’t be happening anytime soon.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is just one of a number of high profiles games being released in 2020 for the PS4.

The Last of Us Part 2 is rumoured to be launching next year, perhaps around the same time as FF7 Remake.

Sony has yet to announce their plans for The Last of Us 2, and there are other games being worked on as well.

But FF7 Remake is expected to be a massive seller on the PlayStation 4, even with the stiff competition.

Having played the demo at E3, the Express Online was pleased to see that the blend of open-action and slow-time mechanics jelled very well.

It appears to be a working compromise for older fans who will miss the traditional battle format found in the original Final Fantasy 7 on PlayStation 1.
