Prince Harry and Meghan pay tribute to Prince Philip and say he 'will be missed'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle paid tribute to Prince Phillip following his death at 99.

Over on their Archewell website, the couple released their own tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh, who passed away at Windsor Castle this morning.

Harry and Meghan are the first Royals to release their own message since Prince Phillip’s passing.

Their message reads: “In loving memory of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh.

“1921 – 2021.

“Thank you for your service. You will be greatly missed.”

The couple have removed all other information from their website.

Prince Philip, Harry’s grandfather, passed away at Windsor Castle this morning.

Meghan and Harry, who are expecting their second child later this year, are living in LA with their son Archie.

Covid travel restrictions mean they haven’t been able to see Philip for several months.

However it has been reported that Harry is making arrangements to return to the UK following the sad news.

A source close to the royal family told the Daily Mail: “Harry will absolutely do his utmost to get back to the UK and be with his family.

Prince Harry and his grandfather were said to be close

“He will want nothing more than to be there for his family, and particularly his grandmother, during this awful time.

“Meghan is obviously pregnant so she will need to take advice from her doctors about whether it is safe for her to travel, but I think Harry will definitely go.”

Despite retiring for royal life, Philip has still joined his family for personal events and was at St George’s Chapel to watch Harry marry Meghan in 2018.

While he smiled through the day, which he spent at his wife’s side, he was actually hiding serious pain as he had cracked a rib falling in the bath shortly before and was still recovering from a hip replacement.

But he was determined to watch his grandson marry the former Suits actress and carried on with a stiff British upper lip.

Meghan and Harry said Prince Phillip will be missed

Resilient Philip even vowed to get into shape for the nuptials and exercised by walking up and down the stairs to improve his fitness.

He also posed for an official photo with Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, his great-grandson, the following year a few days after his birth.

Announcing the Duke’s death, a statement from Buckingham Palace released at midday read: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.

“Further announcements will be made in due course.

“The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”
