Pink has confessed that she turned down the chance to perform during the Super Bowl halftime show.

The star sang the National Anthem back in 2018 during the ceremony, as is said to have been offered the opportunity to take the much-anticipated halftime slot.

However, it turns out she politely declined due to the controversy surrounding the gig.

The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick took a stand in 2016 when he started to kneel during the National Anthem to highlight racial inequality.

Talking about his bold move, the What About Us songstress told Billboard: ‘Everybody that does it gets so persecuted.’

The mother-of-two added: ‘I’d probably take a knee and get carried out.’

However, there is one act that the 40-year-old believes would be perfect for the slot, as she continued: ‘They should give it to Janet Jackson.

‘That’s who should be doing the Super Bowl… They should only give it, because of the controversy, to African-American or Latina women for a while.’

Maroon 5 and Travis Scott took to the stage this year after it was rumoured Cardi B was supposed to perform.

However, the Bodak Yellow hitmaker shut down the speculation when talking to Entertainment Tonight.

She said: ‘It wouldn’t be the perfect time. I stand on what I stand, you know what I’m saying? I stand on what I stand.

‘I am doing other things, because, you know, they like to make money out of us. Why not make a little money out of them?’

The rapper went on: ‘I can’t push my limits. My soul wouldn’t feel right. But I know me and Maroon 5 have a lot of performances coming [up]. That song just means so much to me.’

Rihanna is also said to have turned down the slot following Colin’s political stance.

US Weekly claimed that the We Found Love songstress disagrees with the NFL’s take on players kneeling while the National Anthem is playing.

Organisers allegedly told the publication: ‘The NFL and Fox really wanted Rihanna to be next year’s performer in Atlanta.’

They added: ‘They offered it to her, but she said no because of the kneeling controversy. She doesn’t agree with the NFL’s stance.

‘She supports Colin Kaepernick.’
