Piers Morgan lashes out over Brexit delay – ‘We won’t bother voting again!’

The outspoken Good Morning Britain (GMB) host hit out at the “Brexit fiasco” caused by Parliamentarians for refusing to honour the result of the EU referendum. Mr Morgan, who voted Remain during the historic 2016 vote, has said it is an “absolute disgrace” the will of 17.4 million Britons have been ignored for the past three years. Mr Morgan wrote on Twitter: “The only unarguable fact about this Brexit fiasco is that there’s now a concerted campaign driven by Parliament to stop it happening.

“And as someone who voted Remain, I think it’s an absolute disgrace.

“If Britain doesn’t deliver Brexit, none of us should ever bother voting again.”

During a blockbuster week in Westminster, MPs across the House of Commons once again voted to thwart Brexit – shattering Prime Minster Boris Johnson’s “do or die” Brexit pledge.

Parliamentarians and then peers in the House of Lords approved a bill to stop a no deal Brexit on October 31 and ordered Mr Johnson to extend Article 50 unless a deal was approved by October 19.

On Wednesday 21 Tory rebels had the whip withdrawn by Mr Johnson after voting against the Government.

Last night, Amber Rudd sensationally quit the Cabinet and the Conservative Party in protest at the Prime Minister’s Brexit strategy.

However Mr Morgan, an avid supporter of Mr Johnson, played down the significance of Ms Rudd’s departure as Work and Pensions Secretary and said the country was still behind the Prime Minister.

The GMB anchorman said: “All seems cataclysmic for Boris but I still wouldn’t bet against him emerging victorious.

“Remember, the majority of the country voted Leave… they will still be with him.”

Ms Rudd despite signing up to Mr Johnson’s no-nonsense approach to Brexit said she remained “committed to the One Nation values”.

The MP for Hastings and Rye hit out at Mr Johnson’s approach to leaving the European Union and said she “no longer believed leaving with a deal is the Government’s main objective”.

Ms Rudd told The Andrew Marr Show: “Under the last Prime Minister we had rebellions over European matters – I think Jacob Rees-Mogg rebelled, I’m told, 100 times, lots of people rebelled on the Withdrawal Agreement.

“If they hadn’t, we would have left the EU by now and some of those people in Cabinet.

“I think this is disproportionately unfair to single out this group who have a different view on leaving the European Union.”
