Piers Morgan has joked that he’s ‘distraught’ to find he’s been blocked by Jameela Jamil on Twitter, after she slammed the TV presenter for his ‘hateful’ comments.
Love Island presenter Caroline Flack died on Saturday at the age of 40 after taking her own life. Her suicide has sparked a heated discussion about social media trolls and spreading negativity online.
Following Caroline’s tragic death, Good Place actress Jameela has decided to block Piers whom she believes contributes to the negative energy on social media with his outspoken nature.
When Jameela said she hoped to be remembered for changing global policies about mental health among young people, Piers replied: ‘You won’t be remembered at all.’
Announcing her decision to ban him from her account, Jameela told her one million Twitter followers on Monday: ‘I’ve decided to block Piers.
‘He’s using his platform ONLY to perpetuate the hateful emotional violence that leads to the nervous breakdown of young, vulnerable people. In and out of the spotlight. I expose his name to a new young audience when I tweet him, which endangers them.’
The 33-year-old actress and model added: ‘I suggest we all block him. More effective than me giving him extra air by responding.’
Piers, 54, responded several hours later and told his own followers: ‘Distraught to learn I’ve been blocked by Jameela Jamil because of my ‘hateful’ rhetoric.
‘Previously, Jameela has tweeted I’m “a piece of diseased crusted anal fluff”, an “irrelevant s**tstain”, a “giant pile of w*nk”, and a “pointless, boring misogynist pr*ck”.
I’ll miss her.’
Just the night before, the Good Morning Britain presenter revealed he himself had to block trolls who were sending ‘abusive’ comments.
‘Had a busy morning blocking all the most abusive trolls spewing their repulsive foul-mouthed filth at me – all in the name of “be kinder”,’ Piers tweeted on Sunday evening.
What I don’t understand is why so many of them follow me? Are they idiots or self-flaggellists? Either way, they need a mirror.’
He continued: ‘24/7… Twitter has so many positives & I love it as a platform, but the sheer volume of disgusting abuse that everyone in the public eye now receives on here is out of control.
‘I don’t personally care about it, but many do. These cowards would never say it to our faces.’
After blocking Piers, Jameela has now made her Twitter account private so that she has to grant access to new followers.
