Phillip Schofield fights back tears as guest offers support amid coming out


This Morning host Phillip Schofield was overcome with emotion on This Morning today as he was praised for coming out as gay by guest Brian Cox.

Phillip and Holly Willoughby welcomed acting legend Brain Cox on to the famous sofa this morning.

The Succession star chatted to the dynamic duo about the Murdoch-inspired series to chicken farming and everything in between.

Brian, 73, even opened up on his decision to smoke cannabis in his later life, which got him sacked as a charity patron.

The interview ended the chat on a sweet note as Brian commended Phillip on coming out as gay.

Before he left the sofa, Brian said: “By the way, I wanted to say to you, well done. For what you did.

“That was a very good thing to do. So well done.”

Phillip knew immediately what he was referring to and he replied: “Thank you. That is going to make me cry. Thank you.”

Brian’s gesture took viewers by surprise and they flocked to Twitter to chat about the sweet moment.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “Brian Cox, a truly lovely man.”

Another added: “Brian making Philip cry on This Morning by being lovely.”

Third agreed: “What a lovely thing to say to Phillip.”

Holly put her arm around her co-star after he admitted Brain’s support was going to ‘make him cry’

The TV star, 58, announced he was gay in a statement earlier this month and appeared on the ITV daytime show to discuss his decision to come out with pal Holly, 39.

Phil, who is married with two adult daughters, penned a lengthy statement in which he applauded his wife Steph Lowe and daughters Molly and Ruby or their support.
