Philippe Coutinho has no intention of leaving Barcelona during the January transfer window amid interest from Newcastle United.

The former Liverpool star has been persistently linked with a return to the Premier League having struggled in Spain since his £140m move in 2018.

Newcastle are expected to spend heavily in the January transfer window following the Saudi-backed takeover with Coutinho among the first players to be linked with a move to St James’ Park.

Barcelona are reportedly ready to sell the Brazil international with the club under intense financial pressure.

However, Coutinho is ready to dig his heels in and still hopes to convince new manager Xavi that he can have a future at the club, according to Sport.

The player has ‘no intention’ of leaving the club, the report adds, and is expected to finish the season when a new solution beneficial for all parties will be sought.

Newcastle have recently appointed former Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe after parting company with Steve Bruce.

The Magpies at currently sat 19th in the Premier League and are still to win a game this season.

England internationals Dean Henderson and Kieran Trippier are among the other high profile players to have been linked with moves to Tyneside ahead of the January window.
