Phil Jones is taking inspiration from team-mate Luke Shaw in his bid to steer clear of injury and to get his career back on track at Manchester United.

The defender last appeared for the Red Devils in January 2020 in a 6-0 win against Tranmere in the FA Cup.

Jones’ career at the Theatre of Dreams has been plagued by injury and he’s been regularly mocked in recent years after Sir Alex Ferguson tipped the ex-England ace to become one of United’s best ever players.

Knee injuries prevented Jones from making a single appearance last term but the Athletic say that he had returned to fitness by the end of the campaign, it’s just United felt it was unwise to rush him back into action.

But Jones is now back in full training with the rest of his team-mates and is available for selection.

Jones’ training data is said to be ‘very good’ and the defender has drawn inspiration for the way in which Shaw has bounced back from injury problems off his own to become one of United’s most important players.

Shaw suffered a devastating leg break in 2015 and experienced numerous issues with Jose Mourinho but he was United’s standout performer behind Bruno Fernandes last term.

Jones, 29, feels that he can still contribute for the club and he is determined to play again in a red shirt.
