Peterborough by election result: What time to the polls close? When will we get a result?


Peterborough voters will decide who leads their constituency today as they take to the polls for a by-election. The Brexit Party is tipped for success today, led by former Secret Millionaire participant Mike Greene. The party is hoping to extend their reach beyond the European Parliament, having won out in the European elections.

What time will polls close for the Peterborough by-election?

The Peterborough by-election takes place today on June 6.

Polling stations are open from 7am to 10pm in Peterborough, and voting can be done in person or via post.

Those hoping to cast their vote will have needed to register beforehand.

Those who voted in the European Elections would also have registered for the by-election and received a poll card in the post.

The card shows the nearest polling station and general information about the vote but voters do not need to bring it with them.

Voters will be directed on the voting process when they enter their nearest polling station.

Those unable to make it into their nearest station on the day will have needed to inform the government beforehand and register for a postal or proxy vote.

When will results come out?

The results process for the by-election follows traditional practice for elections in the UK.

Vote counting will begin within four hours of polls closing and exit polls will start to come in from this point.

Full results are likely to come in the early hours of Friday, June 7.

For Peterborough residents, the election is usually a straight race between Labour and the Conservatives.

But this year may be different, with the Brexit Party the favourite to take the seat which vote to leave the EU in June 2016.

Nigel Farage’s latest venture is tipped for success, as opinion polls suggest the party is still highly popular.

The latest opinion poll from Opinium found 26 percent of voters would back the party in a possible General Election.

Labour came in second place with 22 percent, a drop of seven points compared to the last poll.
