Peter Kay pictured for the first time in eight months after hitting back at Channel 5 documentary

Peter Kay has been pictured for the first time in eight months after he hit out at a TV documentary about himself.

The comic, 46, went to see Nativity the musical with his family over the weekend, having last been pictured on a family day out in Blackpool in April.

Debbie Isitt, who directed the show, shared the picture of herself and Kay with cast members Simon Lipkin and Scott Ganham on social media.

Alongside it, she wrote: “So lovely to see the brilliant comic genius Peter Kay and his lovely family @nativityuk tonight for our final show! What a lovely surprise for us all.”

Another picture of the much-loved entertainer appeared in the Sun, showing him with comedians Tommy Cannon and Bobby Ball and X Factor ’s Chico Slimani.

Prior to his April 2019 outing in Blackpool, Kay had not been seen in public for a year.

His last public appearance was also in the beachside town, at a screening of the final series of his show Car Share in Blackpool in April 2018.

The snap comes after Kay hit out at Channel 5 over their new documentary, titled Peter Kay: In His Own Words.

A statement posted on his Twitter account criticised the show and suggested it was misleading his fanbase.

The statement said: “Very flattering of Channel 5 to commission the programme going out tonight, but just to let people know that Peter Kay: In His Own Words has an incredibly misleading title, as it doesn’t feature any new interviews with Peter and all the footage is completely historic.”

It continued: “The title gives the impression that Peter has been involved in the making of this documentary, which he hasn’t. At all.”

The tweet arrived shortly before Kay was photographed attending the final performance of Nativity. Standard Online previously contacted for Channel 5 for comment.
