The future of Pep Guardiola at Manchester City could reportedly depend on whether or not he receives backing in the transfer market.
Guardiola’s current deal at the Etihad expires in 2021, and it is unclear whether he will extend his contract to remain in the Premier League.
Mikel Arteta, the man viewed by most as his natural successor, has agreed a deal with Arsenal and already said his goodbyes at the club.
And keeping Guardiola could now hinge on their transfer dealings, according to The Athletic .
It is claimed Guardiola wants several new signings next summer with a spending spree needed in order to boost his chances of staying beyond the end of his current deal.

Guardiola hinted at a desire to add fresh faces towards the end of last season but made only two new signings.
He now wants at least one new centre-back and a new left-back as well as aiming to strengthen in other areas before making a decision over his future.
A new forward is also set to be on the agenda if Leroy Sane departs, with the winger still yet to sign a new contract and being pursued by German giants Bayern Munich.
Guardiola has been linked with Paris Saint-Germain, who are reportedly eyeing a sensational swoop for the boss to replace Thomas Tuchel.
Le10 Sport claimed Guardiola is wanted with Barcelona legend Xavi potentially joining him as assistant manager next season.

Last week, he denied having a clause in his contract that would allow him to leave City at the end of the season.
The Spaniard signed a contract last year keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until 2021, but reports had suggested that the deal included an option allowing Guardiola to depart 12 months early.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of the 3-0 win over Arsenal , Guardiola said: “No. It is not true. I spoke a few weeks ago about my intentions with the club.”
