Manchester United star Paul Pogba is determined to leave the club and has his heart set on a move to Real Madrid this summer, according to reports in Spain.

Pogba has shone for United in the second half of the season, notching up nine goals and seven assists under interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but the 26-year-old is making steps to force his way out of Old Trafford.

While Pogba was reportedly set on rejoining Juventus in January after a series of bust-ups with Jose Mourinho, it appears the World Cup-winning Frenchman is now holding out for a switch to the Bernabeu.

Marca claims that Pogba is ‘serious’ about pushing through a move to Madrid and his agent, Mino Raiola, has been actively searching for the midfielder’s next club for some time.

The report suggests Zinedine Zidane, who has been given a £300million warchest to spend this summer, is willing to sanction a big-money bid for Pogba.

Madrid are keen to find a long-term successor to Luka Modric and Pogba is on the club’s star-studded shortlist of potential targets.

However, United are determined to keep hold of Pogba, a player who so far has failed to live up to his £89m price tag.

Earlier this week, Pogba admitted it would be a ‘dream’ to work under Zidane at Madrid.

‘Like I’ve always said, Real Madrid is a dream for anyone. It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world,’ the France international said.

‘There is also Zidane as a coach and it’s a dream for anybody who likes football.

‘For now, I’m at Manchester. We don’t know what the future holds. I’m at Manchester and I’m happy.’

Pogba also talked up ‘one of the best teams in the world’ Barcelona ahead of United’s Champions League quarter-final against the Catalan giants.

‘Barcelona are a team I always watch,’ he said.

‘You can always learn as a midfielder, I like watching football. Their system, their culture…it can always help me. Barcelona is a great team, one of the best in the world. They have extraordinary players.

‘It’s a match where I want to have fun. Playing against one of the best teams in the world is always a pleasure. It’s a team I lost against in the Champions League Final [2015, Juventus], but it’s always good to play against the best.’

On Lionel Messi, Pogba added: ‘He is the best of all.

‘Barca have great players and, above all, an extraordinary one that is far above the rest.’
