Patrick Cutrone closes on Wolves transfer after leaving AC Milan's pre-season tour

Wolves are closing in on the £16million signing of AC Milan striker Patrick Cutrone.

The Italy international, 21, returned to his homeland on Saturday morning, after leaving the Rossoneri’s pre-season tour in the United States.

Cutrone returned to Milan after leaving the club’s training base in Boston, after Wolves struck a deal that could potentially be worth £20million.

Cutrone, 21, has scored 27 goals in 90 games for Milan, since breaking into the senior side.

But he was left to play second fiddle to Krzysztof Piatek following the Polish forward’s arrival from Genoa in January and is surplus to requirements under new boss Marco Giampaolo.

The ex-Sampdoria chief is looking to make his mark at San Siro, and is cashing in on homegrown Cutrone as Milan balance the books and seek additions of their own.

However, the deal had looked close to collapse earlier this week, with Cutrone having been determined to remain with Milan and being utilised in pre-season action against Bayern Munich.

But having been told that opportunities in Italy will be limited, Cutrone has decided that his future lies elsewhere.

As such, his advisors have stepped up negotiations with Molineux chiefs, who are set to hand boss Nuno Espirito Santo an addition to his attack.

Portuguese boss Nuno has been desperate to beef up his frontline, having allowed both Helder Costa and Ivan Cavaleiro to depart.

With Raul Jimenez only returning from his summer break last week, Wolves have used England Under-21 international midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White in an advanced role during their recent Premier League Asia Trophy triumph, and their Europa League opener on Thursday night.

Cutrone is set to become Wolves’ second signing of the summer, after they completed the loan signing of Jesus Vallejo on Saturday.

Spain Under-21 international Vallejo, 22, has agreed to a season-long loan from Real Madrid , having made just seven appearances for Los Blancos last term – largely due to injury.

Vallejo watched his new side win against Northern Ireland side Crusaders on Thursday, before meeting his teammates post-game and undergoing a medical on Friday.
