A parking meter is being fixed after it was pointed out that people who live locally had to pay more than visitors.
The pay and display meter on Colwyn Bay promenade told Welsh visitors that parking was free after 8am, but English speakers were given an extra two hours.
The incorrect information was displayed on all 14 machines along the road in the north Wales seaside town and was spotted by former headmaster Gareth Pritchard.
He said: ‘This is another waste of taxpayers money! I counted that there were 14 machines along the promenade so how much will it cost to correct all those machines and how did no one spot this glaring error before they were installed?
‘But which one is right? Do you start paying the parking charges at 8am or 10am-would you get fined if you decided to go with the English version?’
‘It’s pure sloppiness and there’s far too many mistakes like this being made, and having to rectify this is just a sheer waste of money.’
The parking charges were introduced after a multi-million pound revamp along the seafront. There was widespread criticism regarding the introduction of the charges amid concerns how the levy will affect local businesses.
A Conwy council spokesman said: ‘ We are aware of this mistake and we are replacing the notice to make sure we are giving accurate information.
‘The car parking is free overnight from 4pm to 10am, as stated.’
