Not quite a maxi and certainly not a mini, midi is by far our favourite member of the hemline family. Be it midi skirts, dresses or even cropped trousers, we’re happiest halfway. You know, when there’s a little smidge of ankle showing and not much more? There’s something so universally flattering about this length that we find them almost impossible to resist.
Rising in popularity over the last few years it seems that in fact we may all be feeling a similar way, with both high end and high street stores full to the brim of varying mid-calf styles.
Forget its once-frumpy connotations, the midi skirt is the very epitome of modern elegance. It’s also one of the most hard-working pieces in any wardrobe thanks to its endless versatility.
Heading to wedding and in need of a wedding guest outfit? Pair a midi skirt with a single strap silk cami and heeled sandals.
Heading over to your friends for a casual dinner? Throw one on with a cosy knit French tucked at the front and some chunky white trainers to boot.
Stuck on what to wear to work? A blouse and loafers, a shirt and pumps, a t-shirt and trainers… the midi skirt is quite simply one of the easiest pieces to tempt you out of your usual trouser suit ensemble. Even though they’re one of our favourite things to wear RN too…

Naturally there are certain midi skirts that’ll best serve your wardrobe in the long run, and Lafeyette 148’s asymmetric Garland style is certainly up there with our absolute favourites.
You might prefer something patterned and floaty – we’d recommend this & Other Stories printed asymmetric midi skirt for daytime, or Warehouse’s sequin A-line take for night. If you’re looking for something a bit edgier and more directional – look no further than Alexander McQueen’s epic gathered cotton-poplin midi skirt.
