An ingenious orangutan was caught on camera shielding her baby from the rain – by using a leaf as an umbrella.
The rare moment was filmed by a visitor in Mount Leuser National Park in the Bukit Lawang area of North Sumatra, Indonesia.
Tour guide Eddie, who goes by only one name, was visiting the national park to see the mammals when it started raining heavily.
The 42-year-old noticed some orangutans from a distance picking up caladium leaves and using them as covers before he spotted a mother carrying her baby and hiding her under the leaf.
Surprised to see their antics, Eddie quickly captured the moment on his mobile phone.

Sadly, he also spotted some orangutans taking shelter from the rain by covering themselves with plastic bags fished from a nearby river.
He said: ‘I was shocked to see orangutans taking large taro leaves, known as caladium, and covering themselves.
‘I thought these were rare moments I have never seen it before.
‘I took photos and videos with my smartphone. I was lucky to capture this.
‘There were also orangutans who took shelter from the rain by covering themselves with plastic bags they got from the river.’
