Olivia Wilde has said she ‘absolutely’ wants to direct a Marvel film and follow in the footsteps of Chloe Zhao and other female directors.

The 35-year-old Rush star has just made her directorial debut with teen-comedy Booksmart but she’s got big ambitions and has set her sights on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Her inspiration Chloé Zhao is set to direct the upcoming MCU film The Eternals.

Another powerful Hollywood woman, director and producer, Ava DuVernay, is also taking control in the superhero world as she will soon begin work on DC Extended Universe film The New Gods.

When asked if she would be interested in working on Marvel during an interview with MTV International, Wilde said: ‘Totally yeah, absolutely. I think that it’s exciting that now women like Ava DuVernay and Chloé Zhao are directing [comic book] films and it’s exciting to think about what that will do to the franchise.’

The House actress added: ‘I think it’s a proud … I’m a proud member of the movement of female directors, and I don’t think there’s any genre that should be off the table.’

Women are pretty much dominating the female superhero directors world at the moment.

Anna Boden is currently co-directing Marvel’s first female-led stand-alone film Captain Marvel and Cate Shortland is set to helm the upcoming Black Widow movie.

The DC Comics hit Wonder Woman and its hotly-anticipated sequel Wonder Woman 1984, can also be enjoyed as a result of Patty Jenkins’ incredible directing abilities.

After Marvel revealed they always wanted a woman filmmaker for the job, they met with as many as 70 different directors before selecting Shortland to helm the hugely anticipated superhero blockbuster.

The film will see Johansson reprise her role as super spy and Avengers member Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow.

Plus, we’re still not over the amazing Brie Larson as Captain Marvel.

Booksmart is showing in cinemas now.
